AVU History
The Asian Vegetarian Union is an offspring of the International Vegetarian Union ( IVU). The IVU is a union of vegetarian societies around the world founded in 1908 at its first meeting in Dresden, Germany. The IVU has organized its 37th World Vegetarian Congress in Goa, India from 10-16 September 2006 with the Theme: Healthy Lifestyle Vegetarian Way. The 38th World Vegetarian Congress will be held in Dresden, Germany between July 27 - Aug 03, 2008
The Asian Vegetarian Union is established in 1999. The current President of AVU is the honorable Mr. Shri Jashu Shah. The Vice-President is Professor Dr. Maitree Suttajit.
The First Asian Vegetarian Congress with the Theme: Universal Health, the Vegetarian Way was held in Goa, India, 14-20 October 2001.
The Second Asian Vegetarian Congress with the Theme: The Vegetarianism for Health, Environment and Peace was held in Bangkok, Thailand, 19-21 March 2006. |
